ThailandŌĆÖs Ministry of HealthŌĆÖs Center for Disease Control and Prevention directed the Alcohol Control Committee (OACC) to investigate users who shared LisaŌĆÖs alcohol commercial photographs or videos on social media, according to the Bangkok Post and Nation on March 17th. As a Buddhist country, Thailand prohibits alcohol promotion on all media channels, so the spread of her alcohol advertisement drew the attention of health authorities. Lisa has recently signed an endorsement deal with the Scotch whiskey brand Chivas Regal. According to media reports, photographs and videos of her marketing whiskey are being widely shared on social media. Nation reported that their internet users are wondering if it is OK for Lisa to promote alcohol or she should be penalized like other celebrities. The health authorities also stated that the OACC is looking into whether LisaŌĆÖs alcohol commercial violated any laws. According to Kachonsak Kaewcharat, deputy director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, her participation in advertisements may not have breached other countriesŌĆÖ laws because some governments do not regulate alcohol promotion like Thailand does. Article 32 of ThailandŌĆÖs Liquor Control Act, which came into effect in 2008, prohibits alcohol promotion and the exhibit of glasses containing alcohol or any brands of alcoholic beverages. It is also prohibited to encourage others to consume alcohol. Violations of this may result in a fine of $15,052, up to a year in prison, or both. Source (1)
